Design Process Statement.
Theatrical design is the art of visual storytelling—transforming a script into a living, breathing world on stage. My process as a designer is rooted in collaboration, research, and a deep respect for the narrative. Whether working in set, costume, or lighting design, I approach each project with a focus on coherence, emotional truth, and support for the director’s vision.
My work begins with careful script analysis and conversations with the creative team. I explore the world of the play—its time, place, tone, and subtext—and begin to build visual and thematic connections. Through research, sketching, and model-making, I develop designs that support character development, shape the audience’s experience, and create opportunities for dramatic impact.
In set design, I focus on creating dynamic spaces that are both functional and symbolic—spaces that transform with the story and enhance the actors’ movement.
In costume design, I build characters through clothing, using texture, color, and silhouette to reflect psychological depth, period, and narrative arc.
In lighting design, I sculpt mood and rhythm, guiding the audience’s focus and shifting perception with time of day, emotion, and scene changes.
Each element of design works in harmony to tell the story visually. My goal is always to create a unified world that elevates the theatrical experience—immersive, intentional, and emotionally resonant.
